Steps in EDIN
The following steps outline how to download the necessary data for Player using a Data Search. If you are familiar with EDIN, you can also export the data from a selection on a Map. The Map approach is not described below but is very similar. Use the selection tool to highlight the wells, fields and contract blocks for your study area polygon; and follow the steps for Spatial Export and downloading the Standard Reports.
- Open an internet browser and navigate to https://login.ihsmarkit.com/?v=2.0. Login to your IHS User Name (typically your company email) and Password. Then navigate to https://energyportal.ci.spglobal.com/ . Move mouse to EDIN panel and click Launch.
A new window appears.
- From the Explore panel click Start a New Data Search. Alternatively, you can search by selecting an area on a map.
- Use the Global Filters to select your area of interest. A good approach is to set a filter for Region and then either one or more Basins or a Country. In the example below, the Region filter is for Australasia and Basin filter is on Bonaparte Basin.
For help with using the Data Search queries, click the ? at the top of the page and choose Getting Started > Release Notes & Reference Guide.
Export the Wells geodatabase. From the Domain dropdown, choose Exploration and Production and from the Subject dropdown choose Wells.
Click Send to Spatial Export. New controls appear, accept the defaults and click OK.
An Alert dialog appears that "Your Spatial Export has been submitted". An email will eventually arrive in your Inbox.
Change the Subject dropdown, choose Fields. Click Send to Spatial Export, click OK to submit the request. Another email will eventually appear.
Change the Subject dropdown again, choose Reservoirs. Click Send to Spatial Export, click OK to submit the request. A third email will eventually appear. Note, if the Reservoirs option is not available you may not have entitlements - see Appendix B.
Change the Subject dropdown, choose Prospects. Click Send to Spatial Export, click OK to submit the request.
Select the icon Custom Reports available and select + Add New
From the Choose from drop-down list select Prospect Reservoirs. From the Column List select all the items (select the first item in the list, then holding the shift key select the last item in the list). Select the right arrow to populated the Selected Columns list with all the items. Give the Report Name the title of Prospect Reservoirs and then OK (note, the Prospect Reservoirs report only needs to be setup once, in future data searches step 9 can be eliminated).
From Custom Reports available download the Prospect Reservoirs Excel file from the link
- Go to MY CONTENT and select Spatial Export Files. Download the File Geodatabases for Wells, Fields and Prospects.
- Unzip the 3 File Geodatabases into a folder and rename to EDIN_Wells, EDIN_Fields, EDIN_Reservoirs and EDIN_Prospects. Also place the downloaded the Excel file in the same folder.
- Open the Prospects Excel file and ensure the Worksheet name is Prospect Reservoirs (EDIN might name the file Prospect&20Reservoirs - remove any characters to just have a space between the words and save)
Import EDIN Data into a Player Project
- Ensure the configuration files are copied to the project folder.
- From the Player ribbon select the Import Wells, Pools and Prospects icon
- From the Source Directory select the folder that holds the EDIN data. Then from the Configuration drop-down select S_P EDIN - AddUpdate Wells.
- From the Discovery History select Add Wells. Select the ADD WELLS button to load the EDIN wells into Player.
- From the Configuration drop-down select S_P EDIN - AddUpdate Pools. From the Discovery History select Add Pools/Fields. From the Match Criteria select Play Mapping and select the tick on the right side. This will populate the table with the EDIN definitions on the left and the Player plays on the right. This defines how the plays will be mapped when the pools are loaded. Any definitions that are blank, or to change any definitions, right-click in the row on the Play column. Several rows can be defined at the same time by holding the Control or Shift keys when making selections and then choosing a Player play. Select the Add Pools button to load pools.
- From the Configuration drop-down select S_P EDIN - AddUpdate Targets. From the Yet to Find select Add Targets/Prospects. From the Match Criteria select Play Mapping and select the tick on the right side. Defining the plays from EDIN to Player plays is the same as with pools. When this is setup select Add Targets button to load prospects.
