Applies to: Player 5.6/5.7 for ArcGIS Pro
Player is implemented as an add-in for ArcGIS Pro. As such, ArcGIS Pro must be installed and properly licensed for Player to install and run. Player's full functionality is available with ArcGIS Pro Basic, Standard, and Advanced license levels.
Because Player operates as an add-in, its system requirements are the same as those of ArcGIS Pro.
Updates of the Player software are regularly provided and are delivered in two forms:
- Major release – introduces new functionality, along with usability improvements and bug fixes
- Maintenance release – focuses on stability, minor enhancements, and bug fixes
Player is distributed as a single .esriAddInX file. Installation is performed by opening this file on the client machine, which invokes the Esri ArcGIS Add-In Installation Utility.
Unlike traditional Windows applications, ArcGIS Pro add-ins are not installed via a Windows installer or registered in “Programs and Features.” Instead, the add-in file is placed by the Esri ArcGIS Add-In Installation Utility in a directory that ArcGIS Pro loads from at startup. By default, this is the user add-in folder:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\ArcGISPro
Alternatively, add-ins can be deployed to one or more additional folders configured within ArcGIS Pro (via Project → Add-In Manager → Options tab → Add Folder), which is commonly used in managed or enterprise environments where a shared network location is preferred.
When ArcGIS Pro starts, it scans all configured add-in folders and loads any available add-ins, including Player.
Updating to the latest version of Player, unless otherwise stated, is advised. Player software can be downloaded below, along with release notes detailing changes in each version.
