Player software requires a license to enable the functionality. Player requires Esri (ArcGIS) software to be installed and licensed, however, these licenses are separate. This article discusses Player licensing for the machine that is to run Player. Once Player is installed the license should be setup. This will also be the case if moving to a new physical or virtual machine.
What License Types are available?
There are 2 license types available:
- Nodelocked - a standalone license locked to a single computer. This is the simplest type of
license and useful when you only have one computer Player will run on.
Floating - a floating license can be shared between computers within your organisation.
This is also referred to as a concurrent license. A floating license requires the assistance of
your IT group to setup.
Where to Place the License File?
Nodelocked and Floating license files are single files with the extension .lic. This file should be placed on the machine that is to run Player in %localappdata%\Player\License (to locate, paste this address into File Explorer).
In the case of a Nodelocked license file, this is the actual signed license. For Floating license files, the .lic file is a pointer to the server license software (typically setup and maintained by IT).
